Kevin Prime is married to Margaret with 13 children and 20 grandchildren. He is a recently retired beef farmer, forester, conservationist and works 75% as an Environment Commissioner. Prior to his current role he spent most of his time on various companies, trusts, community organisations pertaining to philanthropy, health, conservation, justice, Maori development, education, employment, environment, forestry, training, farming and sport at local, regional and national levels. His hobbies are family, bee keeping, sport, learning new things, and his favourite holiday spot is at home on the farm in Motatau.
