OUR STORIES

Fundraising with flowers

Our Year 7 Dreamers have been working hard all year to save for their trip to the Hillary Outdoors Centre in Tongariro.  Recently, with the magnolias in full bloom, the very generous Catherine and David Davies-Colley, got on board to help with the fundraising.  The Davies-Colley’s have a 2-acre garden at Poroti with over 150 deciduous magnolias.  Their garden was open to the public as an exclusive fundraising opportunity for our Dreamers with a $5 entry on the gate, refreshments selling for a gold coin donation and loads of awesome prizes up for grabs thanks to some wonderful sponsors.

The Dreamers made over $2,400 in entry fees with over 450 people visiting over the two weekends, with additional fundraising made at the cafe where the Dreamers sold homemade baking and hot drinks for the visitors.  Visitors loved the opportunity to access these stunning gardens.

“It was a lovely place to visit, thank you for allowing people to come and see the lovely trees and garden for a wonderful cause.” said Wendy McFarlane who visited on one weekend.

Not only did visitors enjoy the experience, but the Dreamers took the opportunity in their stride.  Many commented on how helpful and polite the Dreamers were and how great the homemade baking was.
